1989-1998 Cummins Marine Big Bowl Pistons (PDM-03523)
Description
Drop-in marine big-bowl pistons for 1989-1998 Dodge 5.9L 12V Cummins engines. Larger combustion bowl than the OE truck piston, designed for builds running high volumes of fuel — the wider bowl shape lets the flame propagate cleanly under high injection rates, which keeps EGT in check and reduces piston skirt scoring on heavy tow or sled-pull duty.
Available in standard, .020, and .040 bore sizes. Two upgrade tiers are offered: a coated & chamfered version with thermal barrier on the top and ceramic on the skirts, and a fly-cut version (.100" valve reliefs) for builds running high-lift cams.
All variants ship complete with rings, wrist pins, and clips. Sold as a set of 6 — full engine set.
Features
- Marine Big-Bowl Piston Design
- Drop-In Replacement for Stock Truck Pistons
- Complete with Rings, Wrist Pins, and Clips
- Available in Std, .020, .040 Bore Sizes
- Coated & Chamfered Option (CC): Thermal Barrier on Tops + Ceramic on Skirts + Chamfered Tops
- Fly Cut Option: .100" Valve Reliefs for High-Lift Camshafts
- Sold as a Set of 6
- Part Number: PDM-03523
Notes
- Thermal Barrier (top coating): hard ceramic-resin film designed for nitrous, blower, and high-boost builds. Keeps combustion heat in the chamber longer through the power stroke — more torque, better combustion efficiency, lower piston crown temps.
- Ceramic Skirt Coating: carries loads in excess of 350,000 PSI and lubricates past 1,600°F. Film thickness .001" or less — no piston-to-wall clearance change required.
- Fly Cut Variant: only required when running a high-lift performance camshaft. Stock and stage-1 cams clear the un-cut piston.
- Chamfered tops on the CC variants help the rings install without swelling or scuffing the cylinder wall.
